I build websites, tools, and systemsthat solve practicalproblems.

I’m Aaron Gurney, a developer and hands-on problem solver based in Phoenix, Arizona. My work connects useful digital tools with the people and processes they serve.

Salon Boutique

Connecting the website to the work behind it.

Running a location means the website is only part of the picture. Tenant information, service requests, and everyday administration need to connect.

I work on Salon Boutique’s website and business workflows, alongside managing its Tempe location. My work includes WordPress customization and location-based organization, with forms, payments, and maintenance-ticket workflows among the areas being developed and refined.

The focus is on making information easier to organize and day-to-day work easier to manage. Enhancements are at different stages; this diagram illustrates the workflow direction rather than a finished product screen.

I Have a Layover

What can you actually do between flights?

A long layover can be an opportunity to explore, but distance alone doesn’t tell you what is realistic. Getting back to the airport matters as much as getting out.

I’m developing a travel-app concept that considers available time, travel time, security allowances, and time at a destination. My work has involved Vue-based interfaces, Ionic, HERE mapping, and API integrations as the project’s technology has evolved.

The goal is a useful picture of what fits within a layover. I Have a Layover is the working name; this is an illustrative reachability map, not live travel advice or an announced public release.

TerrainForge

From geographic data to something you can hold.

Elevation data describes a landscape. Turning it into a useful physical model means connecting geographic processing with the practical constraints of making things.

I’m exploring that connection through TerrainForge, using Python, CLI/API work, and geographic and mesh processing. The project investigates terrain models for 3D printing and CNC workflows, bringing my interest in fabrication into software.

STL/3MF output and CNC toolpaths are part of the broader direction. They are not presented as a complete feature set. The contour study is an original illustration, not a verified export from the project.

01

Web development & custom tools

I connect interfaces, content, and useful functionality. My project work includes WordPress customization, PHP, JavaScript, Vue-based tools, and API integrations.

Websites that have a job to do
02

Business systems & workflows

I look at how information moves through a business, from tenant records and forms to payments and maintenance requests. Managing a location keeps that work grounded in daily use.

03

Technical work & fabrication

My Navy background includes welding, pipe fitting, precision measurement, and equipment maintenance. Today, that practical mindset informs my interest in CNC and 3D printing.

Historical training. A lasting mindset.
04

Leadership & communication

I’ve trained people, coordinated schedules, and led a 22-person Navy team. Customer-facing work taught me to listen carefully, explain clearly, and stay calm under pressure.

03 / Background

Before the code,
the craft.

My background spans Navy service, fabrication, customer service, and business operations. That experience shapes how I approach digital work: understand the problem, pay attention to the details, and build something people can use.

Lowe’s · Sears · Chili’s

From millwork and electronics to restaurant service, I learned to understand needs, explain options, and keep work moving. Lowe’s: Nov 2007–Mar 2009. Sears: Mar 2009–Mar 2010. Chili’s: began Jan 2010.

04 / How I work

Understand it.
Then make it work.

  1. 01

    Understand

Listen to the people doing the work. Find the actual problem.

  2. 02

    Define

Turn the problem into a practical scope and a workable solution.

  3. 03

    Build & test

Make it tangible. Check the details and the everyday use cases.

  4. 04

    Refine

Learn from use. Adjust what needs to work better.
